MMR Asturias Bike Race gets under way

The third edition has more than 450 participants

The third edition of the MMR Asturias Bike Race is already underway. After months waiting for the return of this competition in Asturias, the best mountain biking returns to roll along the roads and trails of Asturias. The central venue of this edition is Oviedo and, specifically, the Palacio de los Deportes of the Asturian capital.

Precisely, the sports hall has been the place where the participants have collected their bibs and have passed the obligatory antigen test – together with all the organization – before taking the start tomorrow. A collection that has counted with all the necessary security measures.

More than 450 participants came to the site on Thursday afternoon. All of them were excited and eager to compete in the first of the three stages tomorrow, 2 July.

Today, the official presentation of the competition also took place at the Asturian Press Club. Conchita Méndez, third deputy mayor and councillor for Social Policies and Sport of Oviedo City Council; Ángel García, mayor of Siero; Alberto San Martín, managing director of MMR; José Antonio Díaz, president of the Principality of Asturias Cycling Federation; and Luis Molina, director of Operations of Octagon Esedos (organizing company) were present.

In this sense, Conchita Méndez said that "sporting events are an economic engine for Oviedo, and MMR Asturias Bike Race is an example of how this type of competitions are an escape for the capital of the Principality where thanks to it they can know the city and do tourism. Oviedo City Council is strongly committed to sport, especially considering that last year we were unable to hold any of them".

Stage 1, of 60.5 kilometers and 2,050 meters of elevation gain, will start from Oviedo and will run through the area of Siero, with a very hilly terrain. The Nissan Super Stage on Saturday will also start and finish in Oviedo and will be the queen stage: in terms of kilometers and elevation gain. We will close this MMR Asturias Bike Race on Sunday with the Finisher Stage that will start and finish in Lugones.

All the stages will start at 10 am.
