Miguel Muñoz (Ciclos Cabello Orbea), in the men's category, and Agnieta Francke (Team Farto - BTC), in the women's category, have been proclaimed champions of the third edition of the MMR Asturias Bike Race. The two leaders of the general classification have achieved the victory in the Finisher Stage in Lugones and have certified the victory after three days at a high level. Muñoz has won two of the three stages, while Francke has won all of them.
The current Andalusian XCO champion gave his rivals no chance. Despite a very fast and nervous start with the Nesta - Skoda Alecar riders trying to break the race, Muñoz took the lead on the first climb of the day to the emblematic Monte Naranco, crowning at Cristo del Naranco. Only Daniel Rodríguez (Nesta - Skoda Alecar), who also completed a great stage, was able to follow him.
Muñoz and Rodríguez went solo and, as happened yesterday, the leader got on perfectly with his breakaway companion for more than 30 kilometres. The stage was decided in the final metres. Daniel Rodríguez tried his luck first, but it was Miguel Muñoz who took the win, riding solo and raising his arms. Third came Nacho Pérez (CDC Juan Pedro Trujillo), who finally finished second overall ahead of Miguel Vallés (Cares Deva), who completed the final podium.
Stage win and overall victory for the Cordovan cyclist from Ciclos Cabello Orbea. With the trophy under his arm, Muñoz commented: "I'm very happy because I was really looking forward to doing well. I knew that Asturias was a race that was very favourable for my conditions and I am very satisfied to take the victory home".
For her part, Agnieta Francke also won the Finisher Stage and has certified her victory in the general classification with authority. The Dutch rider has made her intentions clear from the start and already on the first climb she has gone solo as she did in the first stage.
Today's route, with two long climbs and with more track terrain, has favoured Francke who has been able to better dose her efforts during the 47 kilometres and almost 1,500 metres of elevation gain. Behind her, followed by more than two minutes Cristina Moran (Villaviciosa C.C.) and Marta Torà (Open Natura C.E. BTT) who completed both the podium of the stage and the overall.
With today's victory, Agnieta Francke has completed three perfect days, winning the three stages and the final classification. "I had a better Asturias Bike Race than expected. I'm very happy, not only for today's victory, but also for the overall and for the way I felt here. I've always wanted to do a stage race in MTB, now I've just done two and I couldn't be happier".
With the victories of Miguel Muñoz and Agnieta Francke in Lugones, the third edition of the MMR Asturias Bike Race came to an end. Three days to remember and where more than 450 participants have been able to enjoy mountain biking through the spectacular landscapes of Asturias.
