Rocío Gamonal (RGTeam)

The Asturian Rocío Gamonal (RGTeam), is the current Elite Cross Country (XCO) Spanish Champion, title she’s achieved several times, as well as in cyclocross. Member of the national team, with which she won 2005 Team Relay World Championship.

It has everything to be a success; beautiful scenery, demanding route, a great organisation... It’s a luxury to have this great race at the doorstep of my house and my usual training areas! I can’t ask for more.

The extra motivation of debuting in one of the Bike Race presented by Octagon Esedos and, what better way to do it here, in my town, in Pola de Siero!

You hope to find...

A benchmark race for Northern Spain, with good participation, which attracts many people and that next year it will be just as big as its sisters, Andalucía, La Rioja and GAES Catalunya Bike Race presented by Shimano.

Your goal is...

To give my best, enjoy the three days of racing, that my people get soaked in the ambience that we are going to live that weekend and if we can win, it would be sensational.

What you value from the organisation…

All details count, but above all a good route marking, there are many kilometres and a simple badly marked arrow throws away all the effort of any rider. It’s also important to have good feed stations where to recover, and regarding the spectators, a good paddock area, so people enjoy seeing the riders and teams, that's what fans like.

Your recommendation to someone who debuts is...

To recover well from stage to stage and use the last cartridge on the last day.

You began mountain biking…

I began racing MTB relatively late, when I got my first license when I was 18 years old and I never took off a start number since then. My favorite toy was always a bike, as soon as I had the opportunity to compete I didn’t waste it, and here I continue after twenty seasons.

The current season is being...

I’ve raced eight Cross Country (XCO) and five MTB Marathon (XCM) events, I like to race fresh and make sure the season doesn’t become too long, that's why I choose the races I want to perform at. I have good feelings for MMR Asturias Bike Race, with guarantees of doing well.
